i do that all the time. I just have to watch out for the endpin.
My toes are too short to reach the frets.

When our female singer ditches her shoes at an outside, summer gig, I do the same…
just be carefull with electric ground. if you play on top a rug or over wood, no problem. if you are in a metallic stage I wouldn't recommend it if you play plugged to an amp (no problem if you go through a wireless)
I often wear "water shoes" in places where the stage may be questionable...same kind if feeling w/o the danger!!
Stomping pedal switches barefoot hurts
A lot of stages have nails & whatever stickin out. Not when I perform for that reason, but rehearsals for sure.

It's hard enough playing it with your hands, but certainly bare feet would be far better than trying to play it woth your shoes on.Feels great. And I play better

I'm the opposite. I might show up to the place barefoot or in flip flops, but then put on a pair of sneakers to play the gig.
I love the feeling of walking barefoot, but I hate the feeling of playing bass barefoot.

There was a guy who used to play guitar on Frenchman st in New Orleans and he would lay a bass on the floor in front of him and play it with his bare feet.

I used to do this sometimes when I was younger.
Now that I'm a bit older and (hopefully...) wiser I don't want to risk hurting my feet on nails, broken glass, etc.
There's also the risk of being electrocuted. Admittedly a pretty much non-existent risk in professional venues where all the technical equipment and electrical wiring is in good condition. But I've played more than a few smaller clubs with dodgy electrical wiring/ground. For example the classic scenario where the singer/guitarist gets tiny electrical shocks whenever his lips touch the mic, and you have to resort to questionable grounding solutions, like running a cable from the guitar amp's effects loop to the FOH stage box/snake to be able to play the gig at all. I don't think I would risk playing with bare feet in places like that. In fact, I wouldn't really want to play in places like that AT ALL anymore, but if you're young, on a low-budget tour and need the money from the gig for petrol to get to the next gig.... Yeah, you do it anyway. Or don't young, upcoming bands play in dumps like that anymore?
