Just do it. I've been in that situation as well and sometimes it can go surprisingly well. It can also go unsurprisingly bad.... but bad gigs happen, shake it off and move on if that's the case.

Just go out there intending to nail it. Bands might not be as good they think they are. But they'll seldom play better than they think they can either.

There are tons of terrible shows with great musicians. And tons of great shows with terrible musicians. You could play in one of those. Throw away the self-consciousness, don't take yourself as a band too serious, thrive on shared enthusiasm, go for it and surprise yourself.

if people don't wanna practice on their own and get better , then they are wasting the bands time when rehearsing ... i would fire them or move on ... i was usually the BL in most bands i was in over the decades ... if anyone showed up unprepared ... i would cancel practice ... i have also been a stickler for others wasting my time ... i would schedule practice when all parts were learned ... was i being a prick .? NO ,... it's a business, not just ' jam for fun ' time ... !! just jamming , chilling and hanging/playing for friends is a whole different subject .. ! and is a perfectly fun thing to do ... !

One thing you seldom hear (unless it is by another bassist) - "lousy band, great bass player".

But you never know.

No, it's not wrong for you to think like that. It's the opposite of wrong. It's good. Your band should probably think the same way.
