a whole night of 100% 12 bar blues can be rut-free if everybody puts in the work to learn the parts and play them right

even "mustang sally" can be played with pride if the band actually makes the effort to nail the authentic wilson pickett arrangement, tone and feel....

I agree, but that isn't how it's done. That's how it SHOULD be done, but it isn't how WE do it. I get the feeling, well I'm pretty sure, that the guitar players just want to get the basics of the song, the bare basics at that, and not be concerned about any signature parts that make the songs unique, and just jam through the rest.

That's simply laziness and isn't what "good" musicians aspire too. I'd be looking for better, more invested people to play with. Those types don't qualify as "musicians" in my book, more like wankers/wannabe's who just wanna get payed for doing the least required to get paid. They'll drag down your reputation if you stay doing that with them long enough.

I've just been asked to play a gig on Thursday that would've been predominantly 12-bar blues. we had 1 practise yesterday but we have thrown in a few blues type vamps (think that's the right word) like bm e f# for a "verse" and then walk down from a high g to the low g for a "come around"

It breaks the monotony of just banging out 12-bar blues for 3 hours. But the guys I'm playing with all have an open mind and are willing to try anything and everything. Will see how it goes over on Thursday and let you know but I think your BL is BS

That is my favorite LA Guns song. Wicked song. Monstrous hook. Might be my favorite song from the '80s LA scene. (A few from Motley's first album are contenders too.)

Anyways back to the topic at hand.......

Again - Metal people know it for sure. But Bon Jovi Poison Def Lepp casual pop-glam people might not. wasn't a huge radio deal, and certainly not over the past 20 years at all.

However - as You said MONSTER hook, Obvious chorus; Thus it works great!
