I used to dress up a lot for Jazz stuff, and I wore a suit sorta for a ska band I was in. it was a brown pinstriped suit I got at a yardsale for a buck that was amazing! I prefer just the pants and vest though. Jacket is too hot, the vest helps keep the tie in place and still looks real classy! I'm in AZ so heat is a big thing, I've worn pinstriped shorts, vans, and a short-sleeve button-up w/ tie; very alternative but still very nice looking.

my alt rock band from the early 90's dressed up quite a bit - my rig of choice was a black suit and bolo tie (the tie never made it all the way through the show, but the jackets usually did)

The Beatles really hit on something! I wear a suit a lot when I gig. It looks good, it is timeless, and you stand out.

It really is the best look for a band, IMO! Unless you are KISS!

I think it even worked well for them

Great look for a photo shoot. I don't like it for a gig, too hot. Also, the jacket tends to go crooked as I move the bass around.

Bottom line: I'm a slob.

I always gig in a suit or blazer (usually with a bow tie) - something of a trademark look. It is also a great approach for, shall we say, more mature players to look less foolish playing rock or pop.

Don't know if they've ever played in them, but they sure look good in suits!
