Playing in suits

My band is having a CD release show February 11th at an awesome venue in the area complete with a great dance floor, seating with a view, plenty of pool tables, and here's the kicker: it's complete with a green room. We've played here a couple of times before and it's really great because they don't give a damn what you do back there. But I digress...

We have custom made red suits! Haha! It's going to be great. It compliments our fun album art. I'll be sure to upload pictures from the show. Cheers!

we sometimes gig in suits.
It can be fun to look sharp on stage if it's appropriate for the setting.
Usually though it's shorts, t-shirts & chucks.

Here's a youtube vid of us at a Beatles Tribute night.
there were several bands on stage that night.
(please excuse the missed lyrics but check out the g-players solo)

Here's a costume party we performed at.
We played 20 Beatles songs that night.

You definitely get treated differently (better) when you're wearing a suit! Nowadays, when everybody is sloppy casual & you can't tell the band from the customers sometimes, a nice sharp suit (or even sport coat) really stands out.

i almost always wear a suit onstage. i play regularly in four groups - a blues trio, a jazz trio, a soul/r&b septet, and a bluegrass quartet. the bluegrass group is the only one where the band doesn't perform in suits.

at the 2009 IBC in memphis i was talking backstage at our venue with chris the drummer from JP soars & the red hots (they won it that year), we were talking about stage attire since our two respective bands were the only ones out of ten in our venue who dressed up. he said something i'll always remember:

"you gotta outdress your audience"

I play in one of the the most popular wedding and production company's in the country. We're on "My Fair Wedding" constantly, USA Today, The Morning Show (NYC), and featured in every magazine you can think of almost weekly. My band wears suits EVERY WEEKEND. Besides getting a little warmer then usual, I LOVE it! Something nice and classy about it. Even when rocking out Livin' On A Prayer for the 10,000 time that month.

And when I'm doing a bar gig, I'll still throw a tie on.
