Playing in the cold

Our drummer had this brilliant idea that we should it on a concert for the neighborhood on New Years Eve.

The resident crazy neighbor came over and started a bonfire between 2 houses, nearly singing his eyebrows. (Run far from anyone trying to start a fire with gasoline...)

The wives and well, almost everyone else was inside, we braved the elements outside - 40 degrees before the wind chill.

I had a set of 90-30 strings on my p-bass which helped a lot, but at some point the fingers just stop moving the way you want them.

I sing high praised to Dubs hearing protection, long sleeve under armor dry fit clothing, beanies, and Izod fleece pull overs.

I played every weekend for an entire winter in an open front shed. We had those big kerosene jet heaters in the wings, but it was still down into the low 40's plenty of nights. Fortunately we had a hard cutoff of 9 PM started at 5, so it was never a late night thing and we always got fed (and paid) really good. We did that for over a year and TBH, the heat in high summer was almost as bad. We had fans and you could go into the camp store for some A/C on breaks, but it would be hot much later into the evening.
