Playing music through speakers and headphone at the same time.

I would like to be able to play a song from my iPad through a set of speakers and my headphones at the same time. I know I can do this using a receiver and a set of speakers but was hoping to get away from that setup. I bought a set of Klipsch R-15PM speakers thinking the Bluetooth capability would allow me to do this. Unfortunately, it doesn't, when I plug my headphones into the iPad it breaks the Bluetooth signal and cuts the Klipsch's off. Is it possible to do this with the equipment I have? iPad, laptop, Focusrite 18i20 V2, Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, Headphones, and Klipsch speakers. If not, what do I need?

The 18i20 can do it; you have several options here. I suggest using one of the TOSLINK digital outputs to connect the Klipsch speakers. Use the Focusrite software to send your mix to the headphone jack and the optical output.

Stay away from Bluetooth - the latency will drive you mad!

Thanks, Tosh. I'll see if I can figure that out. I did play around with the Toslink connector some. How tight should the Toslink fit into the receptacle of the 18i20? The Klipsch came with one but it doesn't seem to fit into the 18i20 receptacle very well.

It snaps into place. Both ends of the optical cable should look the same.

see the bump on the flat surface of the connector? the cable is fully engaged once you insert it past that point.

check the manual for the 18i20 - you might have to specify S/PDIF for its optical output; I think it's ADAT by default

my cables came with a domed cap on the end of the center "pin". I removed them, but kept them for any time in the future when I want to store the cable in a drawer or something. Do you think you have caps on your cale as well?

the actual center of the cable has a squared-off end (just like in the photo) - try to avoid touching that. It's how the light gets in, and you don't want the surface to be contaminated.

OMG, you were right, there is a protector on them. Fit much better know. Ha, ha.
