Hey janek,

I saw your podcast the other day titled playing what you sing. It's incredible how you can play exactly what you are hearing in your head. This is one of the things I struggle with the most. I would say I'm an intermediate level bassist so about 5 years now. I was wondering what advice or exercises you have that can help develop that skill?

Also saw tour Juan Alderete interview. Wow!! I was thinking about getting "the meat box". Havnt much ventured out into effects but would that be a pedal you would seriously recommend?

Yea I'd like to know about the whole 'singing' thing.

Do you sing what you play, play what you sing, or are the two inter-twinned? (I know there isn't much difference between the two, but do you hear a line and sing/play it, or are your fingers already moving and you're singing what they're doing).

I find I sing what my fingers are doing, and I'm not really playing the idea I would have sung in my head... (that is, when I'm brave enough to sing ;)

For the first question on this thread.... I have a bunch of videos on the site that deal with form, songs, and melody. And there are a bunch of exercise specific videos that work on some of the things you mentioned.

the meat box is great for sub harmonic stuff where I need a massive amount of sub low-end, but not an octave pedal.

I'm working on a bunch of different ideas for that right now, and will hopefully put together a custom pedal at some point in the not too distant future.

Wow that sounds incredible. Any company in particular that you would get to make that pedal for you.

I love the thought of having a pedal with the power to shake an entire stage and make the audience quiver!
