Double Bass playing with suit coat sleeves.

I find that when I'm playing with a suit coat on it mutes the strings and sounds bad. I usually wear a vest with a dress shirt underneath and roll the sleeves up but my conductor says I have to match the rest of the orchestra. Does anyone know a way to make this work?

Get some Velcro elastics and put them around your coat sleeves to tighten them up. In concert black, of course.

Sleve garters?

I'm wearing a pair now in a full suit. They do help keep shirt sleeves out of the way. Suit jacket has somewhat shorter sleeves than the shirt.

Maybe your sleeves are too long.

The sleeves on these coats appears somewhat short, but it's camouflaged with the black shirt sleeves.
