Please fill me in on Boz Burrell

When he took over from Greg Lake after the Court LP it was kind of a drag.

Peter Giles took over from Greg Lake after the Court LP. Then Gordon Haskell took over from Peter Giles after the Posiedon album. Then Boz took over from Gordon Haskell after the Lizard album.

I know, with so many lineup changes you're forgiven for not knowing your King Crimson minutiae!

What I find amazing is that the time between Islands and Lark's Tongue in Aspic was only 8 months. That's some SERIOUS re-thinking of a band.

Outside of making some good business connections early on and playing a few seconds of good rock and roll, being paid very well and being smart with cash.........he was pretty ordinary as a musician.

Everybody deserves their opinion, but I'm not sure I understand why people feel obliged to enter a thread to diss the cat most of the responders on the thread dig.
In hindsight most of the rock bassist from the 60's and 70's might not live up to todays standards, but they had a impact on us anyway. I can't stand Gene Simmons, but I don't enter his threads to diss him either, he influenced a hell of a lot of musicians I respect, and that's good enough for me. My two pennies.

I didn't diss Boz. Not at all, not one teeny bit. Alot of the "older" rock bassists have, and continue to live up to today's standards in terms of musicianship. Boz played some nice sh**, at least for a couple of seconds in the '70's. IMHO. Then it sounds and looks like he quit the scene and enjoyed his life in other ways, ever-ever, after Bad Company. Not a bad thing at all. I'd say he was very lucky, and wise enough to acknowledge that fact too live his life accordingly.

In any case, unless "Aloha" is an accepted cultural term for term for "**** You", (please tell me if it is) I'd suggest that you be more careful using that spiritual blessing so absently.

Back to the serious business of gear: I have a '68 Ampeg AMUB1 Fretless. This was the last incarnation of the scroll bass and it had a very functional/intonatable bridge and a real magnetic pickup vs. the "invisible"pickup that everyone replaced. Great sounding bass.
I was lucky enough to find one but it was Danko & Boz that made me want to own it

Yes, I owned and played one myself, with a grey bottom "60's P-bass PU added. Pretty furry beast! Wish I hadn't sold it.

Of course everyone working at the Maui Airport with their hand on your wallet uses the term as well. So I guess you must mean it in a different way than some of the rest of us do. In that case you shouldn't be surprised when some of us take offense at your shallow use of the term.

I think his interplay with Simon Kirke on songs like "Good Lovin Gone Bad" was masterful.

Great groove and note envelope, and he was an early adopter of fretless bass in a rock context.

A dead musicians thread.......for some reason those are really popular here. Often the only thing protecting a dead touring rock and roll musicians reputation is the "code of the road". These type of threads threaten the security that is offered by that social agreement.

Lets just say that Boz was no Mozart or Jaco, ect. He was however, a good businessman and entertainer, two key components that many aspiring pro musicians lack.

The OP asked to be filled in on Boz. That is a dangerous question for those who have experienced the negative aspects of touring rock musicians off stage activities while visiting towns they have no intention of returning to.

So keep pushing, bassbully, if that is what you want to do.
