Please help identify this alleged 40th anniversary squier

some one on a guitar forum posted a picture of 3 basses, this one particularly caught my eye. I'd like to know what it is so I can google it.
allegedly a 40th Anniversary Squier bass

*ok, after checking 3 different dealers, I figured I wasn't going to find this guitar. Posted my thread, took a look at a fourth vendor and bam, there it was.

Contemporary Active PB PH in Sunset Metallic
active electronics - eh, I dunno. Probably convert it to passive and have a spare battery for my tuner wherever I may roam. Or paint my black one that color

I bought this one two weeks ago even though I don't usually buy active basses, thinking I could easily convert it to passive.
After playing it every day since then, I changed my mind.

I'm not sure how the P and J pickups will sound with the preamp, but if it sounds as good as mine, you might simply need to change strings.

hah, it was you. Your post caused GAS for me. That's a really handsome bass, didn't see too many others like it. But that metallic sunrise really floats my boat. As far as I can tell, it's a red burst on a metallic gold base, right?

I'm not sure but I'm betting I could take a more flattering photo.

I have the five-string version of JD's bass, and those pickups and electronics are amazingly good for this price range. Ceramic with a very modern sound, the tone control is very complete, and very quiet, no real hiss, buzz, anything. I'm hoping the P/soapbar J will sound as good as the dual soapbar J's in ours, as I'm definitely getting the 5-string version of that.

And for me, it doesn't add up right to buy a so-called 'cheap bass' only to spend another several hundred on it . . . . that you will NEVER get back.

I know it's a little bit of a late reply, but others might have the same question. You are correct: it's a red burst over their Shoreline Gold base. Looks obnoxious on their guitars but I love how it looks on the P.
