Please help me pick a bass!

They're short scale, which basically just means it's smaller. If you have small hands then it may not be a bad choice, since it would be a lot more comfortable to get around on. I've never played a Jag, but they seem pretty nice and I know at least two people who swear by them.

I bought a used Squier VM Jazz for a little less than the MF one. I love it. That Dean looks cool, but I've heard negative reports of their qc. The Ibanez's I've played have been nice, but really thin necks, same with the VM Jazz.

Short Scale just means 30-31". Jaguars are supposed to be good, I'd get that over any other bass you've listed. EB-0s pretty much sound like they have the tone rolled off all the time, they're good for that kind of sound, but that's pretty much all they do.

You can get a nornal squier jazz or p-bass. Not as comfortable as a vm but still ok. Better that anything else on your list. Ive got a 2000 rickenbacker bass that plays just as good or sounds just as good as my less than 200 used squier bvm bass, THere different sounds and feel different, but still like them both.

Does this look good? I'll get 3 straps, a bunch of picks, a case, a stand, an amp, 3 cords, and the dean edge 09 red bass, and a tuner. Maybe other Im not remembering.

If all of this is good and approved by the experts (anyone here :)) I'll buy it when my computer sells! Its quite cheaper but that's a plus. It means I can drop the price of the computer so it'll sell faster.

I mean, really the starter pack is all you need. And a stand, which you can get by itself. Do you really need more than one cable or strap? The first three items you have in your cart are to supplement someone who has only bought a bass and an amp, whereas the starter pack is designed to include everything you need to start (hence the name).

Well the straps are just in case. But the cables are because I have cats. I always buy more than I need with wires, because they always get bite marks. The first item is because a 6' cable from musicians friend is $10 and so is the pack with a 10' one. I'm afraid the strap with the starter pack and other pack may be cheap and uncomfortable, hence the extra one. The third item is because a) the extra cable and b) the stand. Both the cable and stand would be $10 each. So the accessory pack just makes sense to me. If I end up not using the straps or picks oh well, and the cloth Ill use as a dust rag. No problem with that

If you're willing to go up to $300, these are both excellent choices. I started on the Precision pack, and was happy with it for years. I'm sure other TB'ers will back me up. Also as exciting as it is to get your first instrument, you have to remember that it doesn't absolutely have to be tonight. If it takes a few days to figure out how to scratch up the extra dough for a nicer pack then it will be worth it in the long run.

Just thought I would give a little update. I will be ordering Saturday. What I'm getting will be

A dean edge 09 bass
An amp
3 cables
3 straps
A bunch of picks
A tuner
A case
A stand
And some extra things.

Is there anything else I should look for? Or will this be good for me to start with? Thanks!

So you asked everyone their opinion and then, after they said 'squier or ibanez, not dean', you went with the Dean?

I'm going with this. Just threw it together and seems better vs. The dean combo above! Thanks for everyone's help. I hope the short scale won't be to small for me, but I'm sure I can do. Especially since its only for learning!

Edit: also adding a bag to that. The reason why I didn't go with this before was because I forgot about that bass

Oh man almost forgot a tuner!
