what's not tasty about a player who's always in the pocket no matter what genre he happens to be grooving in. Classic tracks like for the love of money (O'Jays) and the groove of AJ and Steve Ferrone on Clouds (Chaka Khan) to his input on Standing In The Shadows Of Motown as well as all the links posted here. AJ is a bass players bass player.

Man, I saw this band at SOB's in NYC, one of the best shows I have ever seen. And, I met Victor Wooten too, so overall great night.

Pino is a really cool player, and I know AJ has been complementary of him in the past, but in my humble opinion, those guys are on two different planets. AJ is like a caged lion, and I've never heard anybody any better!

I am so glad I read through this whole thread. I had seen his performance with Michael Camilo on youtube and was blown away, but after watching a few more of the suggested videos in posts above, I am convinced. This guy is horrifyingly good. I can't find anything out of place in his playing. He uses the 6 string like a bass, not some solo instrument. It makes me want to get one. Also, his love for James Jamerson makes him even more appealing. I remember seeing his photo in the SITSOM book and thinking 'who's this chunky guy in sweatpants?', but after listening to his commentary on the CD, I respected him right away. Such an intelligent guy. Can anyone suggest any good interviews with him?
dr. cheese, just because i watched the youtube clip, i doesn't mean i'm judging with my eyes. as most people, i can listen while watching something.
