HAHA I noticed that. Both videos I watched had the Orange amps a little too prominent, if ya know what I mean.

I heard Orange is kinda the goto nowadays for doom. I recently had an AD30HTC for a hot minute. Probably the least doomy of them, I would guess. Liked it, but I like Marshall tones better. So I traded it for a JCM900, the amp the internet loves to hate. I’m digging it. But this is TalkBass. So I’ll shut up about that now. Sorry, everyone for getting out of the lane.

Church of Misery's discography from their debut album Master of Brutality to Thy Kingdom Scum. Anything after that I leave at your discretion.

Their scrapped debut album (later released as Vol.1) is also an interesting look into CoM before they embraced writing only about serial killers but the re-recorded tracks from that album with updated lyrics on their Early Works Compilation and Master of Brutality are the best versions.

Master of Brutality is the go to album if you want a good feel for the band.

Soooo… the Black Sabbath connection. Would it be a little simplistic of me to frame it historically and musically as:

War Pigs —> Doom
Paranoid —> Stoner/Desert

Not mentioned yet I think, and maybe you know them already, but if your original reference point is 70ties and you like Southern sludge/heavy grooves, try Mastodon and Gojira while you are at it. Mastodon is certainly a little Stoner-ish in places, their writing on their best work (not really a fan of their last records) is incredible, and some great playing too. Great Mastodon albums IMO are Blood mountain and Crack the Skye. From Gojira, try Magma (not stoner, really their own thing, but the sensibilities to me fit a stoner mindset, and an incredible album really)

My two guitarists used Orange amplification. To be completely honest I think their very regular tones were way overrated and they added nothing special to our Doom bands sound. I personally think the brand has been shoe horned into the Stoner Doom genres by way of nostalgia. I was certain after listening to them that I was never going to purchase an Orange for myself, maybe just a personal opinion. One band that shared a gig with us had a guitarist using an Engl Fireball 100, that was the loudest most demonic Doom guitar tone I have ever heard in my life. Their Bassist was using a SWR and that thing was booming. As for my bass equipment I prefer my Traynor's and my Marshall.
