Please recommend me basses with thick necks

Warwick = thick soap bar type neck, and narrow/tight string spacing (for 5'ers). Most of the non-German models should work.

However, how are you with "nut" width? Just asking, because I do not mind a chunky/thick neck, but have real trouble with a wide neck. I am a 5 string guy, so maybe not a problem for the 4 string people.

Wide neck does not = thick neck. Most P's I've played have a wide neck, but it is actually pretty thin. My Jazz is narrow, but is actually pretty thick. I've actually has some pain caused by a couple of P's I owned and sold them - I think because of the thin neck.

The Mike Dirnt sig bass, and some of the squire classic vibe that have that Tele style have a nice thick neck that I like a lot. I'm sure the OP could find one in the $600 price range. I think fender calls that neck a "Thick C"

Neck thickness is not a spec we talk about much for a group who seems to be obsessed with every little spec and detail. Neck thickness, IMO, makes more of an impact on the way a bass plays / feels more than most other things. I actually borrowed a set of calipers once and measured the thickness of the neck on my Jazz at the 1st and 12th fret so I had a reference point, but it's a hard piece of info to track down.

You might look for a late '70's to early '80's Japanese "lawsuit" Precision Bass. The reproductions were very faithful to the original '60's Fender basses, including the early "chunky" necks. The good ones are getting harder to find, but you should be able find one in your price range with a little searching. I had a Tokai that sounded great, but the neck was just too thick (front to back) for my tastes. You might try searching "Vintage Ibanez" in the TalkBass classified section.

Well with Fender it's business as usual, if you want the fat necks it seems you have to make a special order (at a special price) but the standard MIM comes with the Modern C. If you like the Jazz neck, and you like P basses then definitely check this one out. Maybe go to a musical instrument emporium of your choice and try a few. I totally get the neck thickness preferences and the width too. They have all kinds of neck profiles on their site but there's a price to pay for anything but the standard. Personally the modern C is PERFECT for me but I like thin necks and I find the neck width between the Standard P neck and the Standard J neck is within the scope of my desired parameters. YMMV.
