Plectrum Players: sweep picking?

Guitarists do it, the big eighties shredders were all about their sweep picking (raking with a plectrum, essentially). Do pick players do this on bass?

Not sure about pick players, but I've seen finger players do it. Mostly in Tech Death bands, like Portal.

Adam Nitti does sweeps.
But not with a pick.

I do that sometimes, depends on the line, mostly without a pick. Learnt to do that from playing guitar.

Never seen a bass player use the pick for sweep picking but I'm sure isn't rare.
I use the thumb, just as my dear friend Adam thought me, it's most comfortable and easy to merge with other techniques.

I use economy picking on descending lines. Going up no way to do it with fingers.

There's not quite (nearly!) as many applications for it on bass, but after listening to some Yes last night, I was reminded how tastefully applied creative (or borrowed) techniques can yield some really, really interesting results.

The critical part for us would be ensuring the tone of the result has sufficient clarity, but that's certainly feasible.
