Pleking

Should a bass or any other instrument be Pleked with the same gauge strings that will be used on the instrument?
I recently ordered a Sandberg TM4; they come Pleked with stock 40-100 gauge strings and I plan to use 45-105.

Well, PLEK machines do compare the necks both under tension with strings on and without and do their thing mostly according to the former measurements. I'm assuming (never had a PLEK'd instrument) that, however precise those things can be, I doubt they would've set them up without any tolerance for string gauge changes. You'll probably have to make a few adjustments but I doubt there's gonna be a problem.

 

[One Way]

I've had two of my basses PLEK'd with strings of different brand and construction type than I'm now using.
I do believe the PLEK operation was truly optimized for the previous string choice, however both play fine and are set with .010" neck relief and 5/64" string height at the 12th fret.
