pls help me

hey guys,
i've met up with an issue with my band.

we were listing out some of the new songs we cld do and there's this song my lady singer really loves.

she's like "omg, i really love this, nice bassline" and in my mind i was "tht's the cheesiest sh!t i've ever heard". she proceeds to say tht she'll kick my arse if i dnt do it which i really dnt like what she said.

comes rehearsal and i've played smething similar (org had 3 notes, i played 4) and she keeps bitchn' abt it and demands i play it like the original cause she really loves it.

i got no problem playing like the original, just tht i hate the way she wants it her way and what she said abt kicking my arse if i dnt.

what shld i do?

i'd love playing in behind a singer with some attitude. usually they are indecisive and all like "ok that's fine". and when you play it your way at the end they say "i don't like it but that's allright"

in other words, do what she says and be happy thah you can just play a few notes and don't have to think about rearranging and appealing to somebody.

it's an aussie song called "beds are burning" by midnight oil

in the chorus, there's this part where the bass player plays some passing notes, he played 3, i played 4 but she demands tht i follow the original cause she really loves it.

y shld strt pttng vwls n yr wrds. dnt typ lk ths.

Anyway... whats the song? Is the bassline so important in the song that it should be played like the original?
Do you really think she'll get physically violent if you dont play the bassline exactly like the original?

no, it's not that important, it's just some passing notes.

i doubt she'll get violent seeing i'm twice her size.

i know it's just a figure of speech but why should it be there in the 1st place

oh, did i mention that for this song, it's actually another member singing it and she's just playing guitar for this?

so it's just her being demanding that i follow what she wants because she likes it.

Play the line like it is on the record. It is more professional, and doing covers like the album, not your take on them, will lead to higher paying gigs. This is especially crucial for guitar solos.

Do you think the singer is going to be the only person at the venue who knows you are changing the bass line? I am sure there will be audience members thinking the same thing she is, especially if the bass line is essential to the song.

Hmm, Im familiar with the song, but cant really remember it having any significant bass line that shouldnt be messed with.

I getcha. Though perhaps she was being a bit facetious with the "kick yer arse" comments?

does it matter?

Always!

Physically attractive people are more used to getting their way :smug:

To be fair, the OP pretty much said he only added an extra passing note.

In my opinion, this is one song where the original part should be played exactly. The bass line really drives it and I do not think it should be strayed from. It's almost like "Radar Love" - a part that should not be messed with.

Again, that's just my opinion. Actually, I think it's very cool that you are playing it because I really like that song.

sorry for getting off topic. You should check out more of Midnight Oils music. very cool indeed. full of great bass and guitar lines, wicked grooves, very profound lyrics, and some sweet ass guitar tones. I was a huge fan and still listen to their records quite often.
in regard to the op, unless she's like that with everything, let it slide. I'm sure there are songs that you are that passionate about as well. It's a fantastic groove, enjoy it.
