Plug the bass into the computer

I've plugged it in, but is there any way to play with the speakers in just windows without any particular program? As far as i know the programs cost money..

Yup Plug it into the mic jack, it's a 3.5mm one so you'll need a cable with an adaptor to 5mm to go into your bass.

I've tried every possible way but i can't hear anything from my speakers, it's a passive bass directly to the adapter into the line-in on the soundcard, what can possibly be wrong? Should the audi properties be on Recording or Playback? I've only got S/PDIF-In on the Recording but that didn't work, very strange, anyone might know?
