All knowledge gained here in my thread about my Dingwall is not lost. I still get to use my brand new router and PLUNGE it into a bass guitar, but it will be my el cheapo Red Subber fan-fret, somewhat multi-scale bass. I had bought this template 2+ months ago for the EMG40’s. I couldn’t figure out why it only fit over the top of the EMG by ¼”. If I had routed any hole in a piece of wood with this template, I would have had to pound the EMG in the hole with a sledge hammer. Turns out the guy sent me the wrong template, this one is for cutting holes in a pickguard for the EMG40’s, makes perfect sense now. He is sending me the correct one as I write this.
You can see in the Red Subb it has factory holes for EMG35’s. Since the EMG35’s I put in it only have a single bottom rail type coil in the big black housing, we can see what very little effect it has on the top pick up E string (which is really a 'B' string, as this is my dedicated BEAD tuned bass). I have to believe Dingwall figured all this out with their previous Combustions that had the EMG35 holes in them and that’s why they went to a 5 string length pickup in the newer 4 string Combustions. So I need more pickup surface area and I’m going to hog out and widen these existing holes.
So, do any of you know where I can get (2) black rings/bezels like below but for my EMG40 size soapbars? Everyone and their sister has these rings/bezels online for guitars humbuckers but I can’t find a single one for the EMG you see on my yellow covered work table.
