Plus one bird.

Rakie

Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to...
So, I used to keep a bird, i moved out and my mother didn't want me to have it where i currently live... so she took it home, visited home the other day, found it was out of food and its water was not only empty but bone dry.

Ok, they aren't paying attention to it, so i took my baby home and now she's all happy again.

Female Cockateil, 7 years old, and she missed me a lot !!!

How do you know that a bird missed you? Not saying she didn't, but, you know, I don't have the foggiest clue about birds and stuff...

Well, its really clingy, it sits on the side of the cage, and when i open it it fly's right to me, i put it back, it fly's to me... and it keeps doing that till I lock it up lol, it tries to sleep with me all the time, if i leave the cage open eventually i'll wake up and it will be like TWO inches from my face just staring at me. lol, she's a dork, she's not so clingy today, she's exploring her new room and chewing on everything... i had to move all my electrical cords or shed be dead already, lol.

But birds are like a mixture of Dogs and Cats honestly... they can be left alone like Cats, but not too long or they get separation anxiety and sometimes they can make themselves go insane. And when they want attention, you KNOW it. Either by incessant squawking or just bird chatter, playing with toys in a non "playful" manner, and following you within the cage.

Birds are strange pets, they can be left alone but require TONS of attention at the same time... they are like a 2 year old child.

I like how your mother thinks she can take better care of YOUR pet. Real nice. I love overbearing mothers who try to tell us how to live our lives.

Can you tell I'm bitter?

yeah, she's apparently pawned it off on my little brother to take care of but he treats it like he take's care of his bird, his bird is VERY, VERY loved, but it only needs to have its food changed every week, and its water once a week, and also his bird was in a spot of the room with no direct sunlight unlike my bird, so its water went faster, he was just not paying attention to it, cuz its not his bird.

Cool man. Really want a bird :hmm:

I used to have parakeets, but they sucked as pets cuz they didn't ever interact with us.

But when my brother went hunting to find his malamute and talking to people at stores fishing for good breeders, we ran into a parrot that was totally awesome. He sat out in the open, no cage, talked to everyone that walked by, loved getting scratched on his head, loved climbing all over us, loved singing... I wanted that bird so bad. $1500 for a bird is a bit much, in my opinion, but when I think about it, in an apartment where you can't have dogs, I'd totally get one. Not even get him a cage, just a good perch and let him own the place. Train him what to chew and not chew, and that's it. The store manager told me he took that parrot outside ALL the time, no fear of flying away! Outstanding!

I wanna say he was an African Grey, or maybe a ... oh crap I can't remember, I'ma swing by that store on the way home today, just to see that bird again...

we had a parrot we used to let out in the mornings hed fly around and he found another parrot actually, a wild one. They would hang out and he'd come home with the other one for food, eventually the other parrot started trusting us, we never touched it but he didnt fly away when we went in the back yard, our parrot would come back every night to be tucked in his cage..

But most birds are very strange... you can take the best trained one, grant it all the privileges it wants and before you know it it will be a brat, pecking at you and being defiant...

Its not suggested to let one outside of the cage for more then 2-4 hours a day, and it NOT encouraged to let one out of the cage for more then half an hour unsupervised.

granted not ALL birds are like this, look at the parrot i had growing up we let it fly away and it always came back, lol. But most are..

They need lots of reassurance... this is what a bird that was upset looks like, Now its being well trained and taken care of, they pluck feathers when they're upset

looks like a turkey, lol. But birds mostly need non stop training ;p

I like this bird

And that bird was an african grey, the most intelligent of all the birds. There is one that knows 1200 words, and its past mimicking it can ask for things, and reply with a simple "yes" or "no"

I cant find the video but its a bird being trained in a lab (Not a bad lab, they love it !) and it asks for some water and Treats, lol.
