Policy on girlfriends at practice

What is your policy with girlfriends at practice? Had our guitarist's girlfriend over at the last practice. It was okay but guitarist spent a little too much time being lovey duvey and the drummer kept egging the two on. I don't mind the occasional lax practice so I'm wondering if I am being too critical here.

My drummer is also my roommate. We share a house with our girlfriends and another couple who we've all known for a long time.
We rehearse in our garage. My gf usually stays inside. Sometimes our drummers gf will hang out in the garage for a bit. Neither of them bother us.
On occasion we might take too long of a break. Thats usually on us, though.

There are always a bunch of non-band people at our studio. Never been a problem.
Usually more people at our rehearsals than some bars that I played when I was younger.
It's always fun. Since we aren't there to entertain them we just pretty much ignore them and get on with business.

Much depends on the girlfriend in question.

I would say that if she is the introverted sort who is fine to sit in the background left to her own devices while the band does its thing then fine.

If she needs to run her mouth constantly to get her opinions validated or needs to be the center of someones attention then no.

If we have a gig coming up, then we don't allow guests for 2-3 practices beforehand. If not, then guests are fine with us. We just don't allow drama or meddling. If anyone gets hypercritical or whatnot, we show them the door.

Generally seems like a bad idea, unless she really is a huge music fan. Otherwise she will get bored and he will invariably start attending to her needs. I've attended a friends practice as a non-player, but I just sat there and enjoyed the show - their practice was not altered in any way due to my presence. I just wanted to watch a few rehearsals of a band that was a level or 2 above me. One of the major factors really should be how serious a band it is. To me there would be a big difference between a band that gigs at a house party once every few months for little or no money and a pro band that is gigging regularly/making a living off music. In the latter situation it would be very unprofessional to bring a spouse/bf/gf/life partner.

We had a drummer whose wife set in on most practices. She was a little clingy. We tried out and tried to introduce a female into the band as a backup and second lead singer and she (the drummers wife )created a bunch of ignorant crap and drama. The girl was better looking than her singing ability. We cut the drummer and the girl singer loose in short time and away went the drama. We are 40-50 year old musicians. Don't need it wont have it. Drama that is.

I view things a little different.

Woodshedding = practice alone.
Practice = practice with other people.
Dress Rehearsal = try out the new stuff in front of people (soft opening)

During a dress rehearsal I will allow it. This is the chance to work out the nerves for stuff that is really new. There will be no conversation/interaction other than what we would have with our audience and it is a very breakneck pace. They judge the show, not one part.
