i was looking into doing some of my own refinishing projects. I thought it would be kinda cool to do a polka dot finish similar to the randy rhoads v. I looked for stencils and masks but no luck. is there any way to do this as simply and as clean as possible anyone have any ideas?

I'm no expert, depending on the dot size, you could use those round stickers used for pricing stuff, the little orange dot stickers for writing the price on. You can get them just about anywhere.
Go to a craft store that sells airbrush supplies. What you need is "frisket". This is the stuff that air brush artist use to make their stencils. You can make your own with an exacto knife. the problem with stickers is they will be very hard to get off the finish and might damage the paint. Be sure to let you base coat dry for a couple of days before using any tape of frisket on the finish. It might be less of a headache to paint the bass the color of the dots first and then mask off the dots any spray the main color. I just painted a headstock this way. Good luck and give us a picture when you're done.
I don't think price labels would be so hard to remove. Definitely let the finish dry before peeling them off.

I'm thinking an alternative would be to take a piece of transparency, like the kind used for an overhead projector, and use a paper hole puncher to punch out holes across it. Then, you can lay this across large flat parts of the body as a stencil. You just need to make sure the paint isn't too wet, or it might seep under the stencil. I used this material to stencil spraypaint on a model kit before. As for the sides/curved parts, you can use the same thing, but you probably should make a new stencil with less holes and hold it in place while spraying or similar.
