I hate pick guard mounted jacks. I always feel like I’m gong to break them. I prefer a side jack.

C'mon, where are the Mods?Groping around to find the jack hole is always a bit of aggrivation, so I have to say I prefer a top mount jack, but I really don't know why more bass guitars don't have BOTH. There's nothing wrong with letting players take their pick, and even provide the alternate jack location if the cord they have works better with the other jack location.
The best of both worlds?
Unless you're switching active electronics it would be a great feature to have on passive basses.
