I am big fan of right angle guitar cables. I don’t even I own a single straight cable. That being said, every guitar I own, with the exception of acoustics and one telecaster, have top mount.

Who has ever been jamming along only to step on your cable and pull out the cord? Of course you can strap loop the cord, but occasionally I see some people not do this, and I just can’t understand their living dangerously that way.

Sure, you can use a right angle plug (I do it all the time on my SR2605). It just looks funny

with my wireless hookup I prefer the side, otherwise I prefer the top.

Top looks cool (IMHO of course) but can stress out a pick guard if you're careless.
Side is usually more secure and therefore actually is cool (again IMHO). +1 for the electrosocket mounting plate; bit of a "meh" for barrel jacks.
I didn't vote because I've got examples I love with both types. (I guess I do favor top on a P, J or Ray just for old school's sake...)

To me they look better on the bottom but I prefer them on the front. Easier to plug in and the cord plug is out of the way on my floor stand.

On the top I find they never get in the way of anything. On the side/bottom they can interfere with sitting, putting on a stand or resting up against and amp. I'll admit they look better on the side/bottom, but I always go for function over looks

Right angled cord (thru my strap) plugged into the top is my preference, but I have both.
