Poll: How many different brands/styles of strings do you use?

Up until a few minutes ago, I had all of my electric basses strung with TI Jazz Flats. But, I just ordered a set of Dogal Hellborg strings for my Lakland fretless five-string!! OMG, perhaps an old dogg can learn new tricks; we'll see!

Do you use the same brand on all your basses?

I do have a favorite brand and a #1 go-to and always-come-back-to string. But every once in a while, I do get the itch to try "something different" I haven't tried before. Since I have four basses, I might as well make them sound different from one another by experimenting with strings.

As of next month, I'll have four different brands and five different types of strings on my four basses.

most of my basses have d'addario super light rounds, 2 have custom newtones and 1 has fender lights.

Other than the stainless steel Rotosound Swing Bass 66’s that are on my Precision Bass, and the Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys that are on my Ernie Ball US Sterling, I GHS strings. I use Pressurewounds on my Ristola Exotic-6.

I experimented with a couple of different brands of strings on that bass, and once I tried Pressurewounds, it was game over.

I use GHS Bass Boomers on most of my other basses, including my Spector Euro 6LT, which is my main bass. I use GHS Brite Flats on my ‘76 Rickenbacker 4001.

I definitely believe the bass “chooses” the strings.

I don’t have the money to constantly be buying new basses, so I try different strings. Right now all three of my basses have DR Strings- SS Low Beams BEAD on my Schecter Raiden, Pure Blues on my Ibanez AEB5E and Fat Beams on my #1 (my SBMM Ray5).

I’ve got a set of DR Legend flats on order for the Ray5. I tend to be pretty brand-loyal, but I also definitely enjoy trying new strings.

No valid choice in the poll . . . . Flats are either Chromes, Cobalts, TI Jazz Flats and just tried Roto 77's as well. Rounds are whatever it came with that have yet to be discarded (typically Slinkies, since most of my basses are Music Man).

I play LaBella LTFs on both of my basses. They're the feel and sound I'm looking for.

I have basses with strings from Rotosound (rounds and flats), Fender (tapes and rounds), D'addario, Gibson - but most have DRs.

All of my string purchases the last few years are for DRs, but for different "models"? from them. I have DDTs, Legends (flats), High Beams, Fat Beams, and some of their K3 coated strings, like Black Beauties and the neon strings.

I only have two basses (both Thunderbirds) with strings that are both same brand and same type (DR K3 coated neon reds).

I've hopped between strings many times, rounds, flats, tapewounds, round core, nylon, gut, fishing line.

Right now, Kallium Hybrid are just what feels and sounds right to me, that might change, it has many times before.

There are a lot of strings that I have used and liked, for one reason or another. I was very fond of GHS Progressives, but those are no longer available. I presently mostly use Rotosound roundwound strings (either stainless steel 66 or alloy 52 Ultramags), and have one bass with Labella tapewound strings.

La Bella DTB on a couple of Gibsons.

I know no one here cares but the La Bella's are DTB, not DTF.

TI JF344 Flats on 2 basses J Bass and Sadowsky
La Bella Spector rounds

I prefer playing flats. They're easier on my fingers. As a '51 reissue, the Telecaster could be strung with any period string set and be proper. I came into mine when Rotos were the rage in the 60s/70s so still use them. The P bass choice speaks for itself. It's Classic Motown. I discovered TI Flats on TalkBass. I'm a fan now. Especially on Jazz basses. But they were great on my P Bass also.

I just got a Spector NS-2 with their proprietary La Bella strings. Very supple and they sound great. I'll leave them on for a while.

I've been using Rotos Swing 66's since about 1972, I've strayed a few times but always go back to them
