Poll: There is NO STAGE

Will You Play if There is No Stage?

My main band has played every stage from the big beautiful one at House of Blues to the place we play next month, where we are on the floor and the crowd is actually a step above us by the bar.

I'll give you a funnier one. My country cover band gig played a Bourbon Street bar that is country (but was a strip club for years before). They renovated nicely, but the stage is clearly from its former days. Very high, marble top, shape of a triangle with a long skinny "walkway" off to one side. The 2 guitarists and I were around the drummer and our pedal steel and keyboardist were jammed on the walkway where the girls would make their entrance.

Speaking from experience, I'd rather have no stage than one that is too small.

Especially when playing with a big band because the rhythm section always loses and gets shoved in the darkest corners while the horns absolutely need to be center for the perfect stage lighting. Outdoor gigs are a lot less hassle! Just put us on an open space and presto.

No stage on the last 3 gigs.
Set up by the front window.
Move the pool table & set up.
Wait till dinner crowd thins out & set up.
Sports Pubs are the norm lately, ughh.
There is only one room in my area that was built for live music.
Rear door leads right to the back of the stage. Built in lighting.
This place was built in the 70's and no longer features live music.

Host: we need to wait until the people at that table leave, and then we'll move it, and that's the stage.
Me: Who booked this? WHO BOOKED THIS???? HEEEYYYYY!!!! AAAUUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!! WHO BOOKED THIS?????
Host: Is there a problem?
If it's a paid job, then the phrase "shut your mouth and deal with it" applies

Ah, it's all good - I don't take it as an indictment. Definitely not the first time I've been told my equipment is excessively large. ;)

Whatever suits the gig, right? Hey, at least I'm out there playing! Cheers!
My HDN212 takes up less than two square feet of real estate. I've still had the LG ask if I had anything smaller. (I do, but excuuuuuuse me.)

The Birdcage Saloon Prescott Arizona, the stage was like 5 ft above the floor, talk about hazardous work areas, when I gigged here I would limit my alcohol consumption..

I remember one place in the 90s where they put a sheet of plywood over the pool table and it was used as a drum riser. It's not a great idea for many reasons...
