Poll: Tree for the A string?

Question: Do you think on a flat headstock, the A string (or the E string on a typical BEADG 5 string) should be held low by a tree?

On a couple of my basses, the string tree is a triple, holding the A, D, and G strings low for good wrapping around the peg. I can't hear much difference on them from the headstocks that just have a tree for the D/G strings.

What's your experience?

I like it, I find it especially helpful on short scales.

I just put lots of wraps on my A and E so they push the string right down to the bushing. That’s as low as you can go, retainer or not. No extra weight, no extra clutter.

I like that stealth retainer from Fender but it doesn’t fit on all Fender posts. Wrap 3 turns.
