Poll - Your preferred 4 string neck shape?

What neck shape do you prefer in a 4 banger? How strong are your preferences?

But I wouldn't say its a strong preference.

Been lucky enough to own a bass with each neck width listed and would say 1 5/8 with a medium to thick neck (not sure what a stingray classic neck is considered) seems to just right to me.

I've done fine with both medium (Fender Standard) and thicker (Classic '70s RI) necks, just as long as the fretboards are on the curvier-side (9.5" or rounder).

Actually, all of the above. On a 4 string it makes no difference to me, on a five string thinner is better, narrower is better.

I have very small hands, so I like the neck as narrow and thin as I can get. I also like short scales. If Ibanez just made a 30-inch version of their SR4 neck, it would be perfect.

Anything really, although a 1-1/2 nut width with either a 7-1/4 or a 9-1/2 fretboard radius would probably be my most favorite if I had to specify. And it doesn't get much more common than those specs.

Yeah...inline or 2x2. Two pickups or one. Single coil or buckers. Active or passives. Whatever ya got. I'm a real fussy guy as you can probably tell.

Oh yeah...minor detail...what does it sound like? Because that's a real big deal for me too.

Everything in the poll is size, not shape.

I like a 1 9/16th nut width that's thin front to back. But more importantly, a D shape and vintage fingerboard radius.

Actually, all of the above. On a 4 string it makes no difference to me, on a five string thinner is better, narrower is better.

My favorite didn't make the list- it's the 1.5" asymmetrical necks (MTD). They probably are 1/2 & 1/2 between thin and medium profile. I really don't want anything to do with a conventional neck anymore.

Nut width isn’t as much of an issue for me as overall neck thickness, so I selected all net widths listed in Thin and Medium. A thick neck is a bit much for my hand.

1 3/4" and real shallow front-to-back is perfect for me.
A very slight V doesn't hurt my feelings, either.

That's not to say I don't play other shapes, but that's my preference.

On a five, I still prefer very wide fingerboards; 1 7/8" or even 2" and a shallow, asymmetrical profile in my perfect world.

Actually, fender sells four different neck sizes...but keeps the bigger ones for a P...

I answered 1-3/4" and thin, but the kind I really prefer is listed as 1-11/16" (Rickenbacker). Thin front to back though. Very little taper.
