Yeah, after I bought it I realized I bought my little Fender practice amp new for $100. I played th ePolytone yesterday evening and it sounds really nice. I like it. It's very punchy
I have an old original Mini Brute with a 12" speaker and black velvet covering in my office. It's fine for a practice amp and sounds fine for jazz guitar. Beyond that, it is of limited use for jazz bass IMO.
An amp that works for EB and DB and is affordable: Traynor SB112.
Although I'm tempted by Acoustic Image and the like, this little amp gives me what I need, and it's light.
$449 new from Gollihur, and undoubtedly cheaper if you can find a used one.
