I've done it...it actually sounds pretty good. A little different, but it still sounds like slap bass. I'll slap on any bass...I've even slapped occasionally on a violin bass. They're the least slappable types of basses I've played, but they're not altogether horrible at it either. I disagree that hollowbodies are bad for slapping, BTW. It's a little different from the plinky planky slappy tappy tweeters on 11 sound, but it's not a bad sound at all.I imagine Danelectro Longhorn would be a difficult bass to slap on. 32" string length , narrow spacing, and 2 octave neck does not bode well.

the only slap bass i've heard that i really liked is an upright double bass
