Pop Punk Combo Amp

I own a Fender Rumble v3 100W and I suggest you the 500W one. It can dial the right tone very easily if you pick play a P bass, it's very light and the power is not little. it also has a distortion channel so you can dial two different sounds (clean and slightly dirty, which can fit punk well).
I also tried a GK amp at a shop and I think it could do that job easily too, see if you can try them before you buy

Cab sizes and amp wattage ratings all play into what people need or want.

I rarely play against more than an AC30 or Fender Reverb, so I'm never up against more than a 30w guitar amp. I do have to play with a drummer, and so I'm looking for a little more myself because of it. If I was against a heavy handed drummer and Marshall stacks, I'd need a lot more than 200 watts and a 210, 115, etc.

It also depends on how much "clean" headroom you need. If you need your clean tone to be absolutely body-crushingly loud, you need a lot more watts than if you can get by with some dirt. That's especially true with tube amps, as they tend to break-up when you crank them.

That's why we have all the choices, what you and I need are not necessarily the same thing.

I'm really confused guys. I thought a combo like the ones that i said will be enougth to play in small gigs and practice with the band. I mean im not looking for something professional, just something that can do the job.

It all depends on your band, and what you expectation of loudness is at the gig. Is there PA support? is your drummer Mike Tyson?

Yup, the ones you listed will do fine and accomplish what you are looking for. As a former combo user, it is nice when you can move into a separate head and speakers, and gives a lot more flexibility, but honestly you'll get what you are looking for out of pretty much any of the choices you listed. :)

All of you recomend a head and 4x10, so, what the purpose of the 1x15 or 2x10 cabs and even the combo amps 500w? I dont know why the sell them if its seems like they are useless :cautious:

1x15: use two of them, easier to move around than a 2x15 plus if you're playing a quieter show for some reason you can leave one at home

2x10: same, but I wouldn't bring just one unless it was a really quiet show

500 watt combo: power amps are so cheap and light these days that if you're gonna bother building a combo and putting a speaker in it...why not make it 500 watts?

But at the end of the day, there are plenty of products that actually are useless, and even more that are gonna be useless to you. So it goes.

Thanks a lot for the help! poopie this a so hard decision. What about the Pf 500 with a pf210HE or with a lanely rb410? Man i really dont want a 410 becasue so big and heavy. Why a Fender Rumble 500 combo for example wont be enougth? Im noob in amp knowledge.

LOL!! You sound like these older guys that complain about lugging around tube heads!! Dude, get a cabinet and a head. Meaty rig, meaty sound. IMHO, those combos you're throwing around just won't cut it. Not with a bunch of young, energetic dudes playing punk. I promise you, you'll appreciate the head room you'll have with a reasonable cabinet and a head to match. I started out with combos and they just never cut it with a full rock/punk band.

They'll be guys on here that will completely disagree with me, and tell you how terrific a 2x10 combo cabinet is, but I personally feel their success with playing one of these in a loud rock band is a totally isolated or unique experience. I would personally suggest a 4x10 Fender Rumble cab and one of their small (in size, not sound) D Series (solid state) heads to match. Good Luck!

Ok in that case let me ask you, im from Spain and i will buy my rig at Thomann. With 900€ limit what would you recomend me? What head and what 4x10 cab (or maybe other conf...)? I will evaluate the price (dont need to use all 900€ if its not necessary) and also the weight. Thanks

Wow so much answers thanks! I see some people always defend the same amps. I need honest opinions. Some people say combo 2 10 or 2 12 are enougth and some people say 4x10 and a head. I dont know

You gotta go play them. That's the only way to know. Go to your local GC (Guitar Center) and play a combo 2x12 and play a cabinet 4x10 cab with a head and that'll be all the convincing you need.

I'm throwing in another rumble 500 vote. They are stupid light, sound good, have many different tones available. It hits pretty hard for a 210, and you can always add another cab, a 210 or 112. The overdrive is decent as well.

The GK MB does not have the same "GK growl" that the 400rb and 800rb were known for, since that tone was largely due to the Poweramp going into soft clipping (hitting the rails they say). The MB series is class D, different animal.

The ampeg ba210v2 is much heavier than the rumble by the way.

I'm just using a rumble 200combo and a 112 cab and it really has been working well. It is louder and tighter sounding than the 150w peavey 115 combos (rumble 200 is 140w 115 on its own), and easily 1/3-1/2 the weight. Modern technology, plus fender has absorbed several high end bass amp companies over the years, so they learned quite a lot.

Right now it is the best bang for the buck out there.

Talkbass is not a safe place to ask about combos. You will get 90% replies telling you why head and cab is better. Most of those replies are truth,.but not absolute truth considering how light the rumble is. All you lose is the flexibility, you don't lose power or tone, and you save money. A rumble 500+210 or 112 cab is enough for almost anything. I see you found the rumble thread too. Good mix of guys, from newbs to pros, total fender fanbois to people who just stumbled on how awesome the new rumbles are. Personally I was almost exclusively pre fender SWR the last 18 years. Some thieves finally changed that for me :( but I am very happy with my rumble rig, which didn't get stolen.

Ok, that's 900 EURO, that's about $950 American. For example, my go to source is Musiciansfriend.com. The Rumble 500 head is $400 and the Rumble 4x10 cab is $400 as well. That's $800 American and now they're running a 15% off special with any purchase over $500. So that rig here, would run you about $680. That's also (usually) free shipping and no sales tax. But there could possibly be some shipping fees with that cab. I'm not sure.

Now in terms of how this would "translate" in Spain? I have no idea of knowing that. However, it would appear that you'd be well within your price range.
