Popping Noise, any clue?

So I'm playing through a crate combo amp that I've had for about a year and a half. Never had any problems. Recently though, I was playing my bass and the amp made a loud popping noise, similar to the noise you get when you plug your chord into your bass with your amp turned on. It lasted for half a second at most. I switched basses a little while later and it happened again, so I really doubt it's the bass. This happened once a few days later, and has only happened three times. I was playing it at a low volume each time and the eq was set to the middle for each knob. Is this referred to as the term "farting" ? Does anyone have any idea what could cause this noise? Thanks for any help.

Are you slapping your bass when this happens? this happens when i slap my B string and it hits the pick up.... so i raised the action on it.

No I'm not. I actually put some ghetto cover on my pickup to prevent that haha. Thanks for the input though.
