Popping sound from battery conpartment

Not sure if anyone out there can help me. But I have a newer MTD Kingston (Import) Heir. When I tap the battery compartment while playing, I get a loud popping sound. If I remove the cover it disappears. I'm assuming there is a grounding issue or a short somewhere, but I don't know where to begin. Any ideas?

As a wild guess, it could also be a loose or intermittent connection. Does your battery compartment have some sort of "foam" to keep the battery from rattling around? When the cover is off, if you jiggle the wire or handle the battery, can you re-create the sound? How about if you tap the battery? Though it is not a cure, the foam will keep the battery from moving around too much, so the symptoms won't be as bad. Alternatively, break out the soldering iron and replace the battery connection.

But are you sure it is the battery compartment? Could it not be in the main pot/dial compartment? Either way, look over the connections in that area as well...

Different brand battery sizes can differ by 1000th of an inch, me thinks that it may have wiggle room. Do this, fold a small piece of paper about 4 times and wedge it under the opposite side of the contacts, to make it fit tighter. if this works, you may want to consider re-stretching the contacts in the battery box, so that there is less play for the battery. If it is not this at all and does not help, check that the wires that are attached to the battery box (remove it, if you must). If it is not this, then most likely it will be the connection inside the control cavity.
