Double Bass pops rosin paper cup

It might be alive after you fish it out of the Hudson!
I heard about a girl in my old high school who jumped into the Hudson to retrieve an errantly-thrown Frisbee. I assumed that she forgot a few things:
1. It was only a Frisbee.
2. It was the Hudson River.
3. The ledge was way too high for anyone to climb back up from the river.
She had to be rescued from what I heard.
I take the paper off and just leave it as is in the plastic canister. Never had any problems with body oil or anything.

I did, it's amazing. I actually spent 70 bucks and got a cake of each grade to experiment with. I've been trying different ratios of each. I had it going pretty well with like 2 parts soft 1 part medium 1 part hard but the weather got all hot and I had to clean my bowhair cuz it got gummed up. What a sound this stuff pulls though, jesus. It's got all the grip and volume of pops but without any of the scratch. Darkened up my sound considerably. Love it.

yeah i used pops for like 10 years. i thought it was fine until I tried the oak.... night & day.
Worth getting the leather pouch?
Not really. I used it on my cake of medium but the leather stuck all over it and little fuzzy bits were coming off. Tried both sides of the leather, both did it. Ended up just putting it back in the paper.
What grade(s) and/or mixture do you use?
Got soft at first (accidentally). But since it was winter, it was ok. Left it at a gig... bought another one, medium, haven't used it yet. Very hot and sticky here now and the cake seems solid still. Good sign.
I like mine more moist so if yours is dry and cracking just put a couple drops of water, (a little drop goes a long way!!) put it back in it's plastic container and wala the next day it will not be dry and cracked!!
i just got a new cake of Pops today. I seemed way stickier than the previous cake I bought several years ago. The old one was more powdery on the bow. Has it changed or does Pops get dryer over time?
pops died a while ago, but his wife still runs the company. the problem is she doesnt have the secret receipe, so youre not really getting Pop's anymore, more like "Mom's"
I found that it's better to take a small piece of sponge (no bigger than the rosin itself) and put a few drops on that, and then put that in the bag. That way, as the sponge increases the humidity inside the bag, the rosin will gradually absorb the water in the air.
Putting drops right on it is too risky, IMO, as you might end up with 1 spot that's soft, or ruin it if you add too much.
After all, rosin gets dried out from being exposed to regular air -- so putting it in a super-humid environment would fix it right up.
Heck, if you have enough rosin, it might almost be worthwhile to pick up a cigar humidor! ;D
I told a friend of mine to just peel off the whole paper cup after I read that this was the way to go with Pops. Of course, it melted into the cup. She was able to smack it out, though; it shattered on the floor, but she just squeezed it together again. Now she just wraps a piece of paper around it.
So I guess yours is the best advice when it comes to Pops. Still, using a paper cup is a stupid way to wrap rosin in, since everybody else is using foil (much easier to peel off).

Ive had bad luke with rosin. One cup, i left in the bass bag, and it wasnt in the cup, and melted in the pocket. At least its not my bag.
Another is melted to my dresser and I cant get it off. And every time somthing gets thrown on the dresser and sits on it, it melts into it and i have to break it off
And Finally everyone at school must like the taste of it because its eather missing chunks, or is missing all of it. ?????? DOES IT TASTE LIKE MAPEL SYRUP??????

lol isnt that stuff a b*tch! It sucks to leave it in my pocket and it melts all over.
I prefer Kolstein Soft to Pops. I find it grips better, its grip lasts longer than Pops does, and it stays pretty fresh after more than a year (my experience with Pops is that it becomes hard after about a year). It also melts all over the place on hot days also, so I keep it in the fridge pretty much year round.
