Popups, virus alerts, free iphones... info thread

I just got the “You just won..” pop up for the first time on TB earlier today.
I have noticed a number of threads being started that are spam lately, never saw that before.
BUT:
The little bit I know about computers gives me huge respect for the ppl keeping it from happening a lot more.
It’s incredible how these sights are bombarded 24 hours a day...

This happens every now and then. Usually the culprit is a malicious cookie that has been planted either by a malicious app, site, or ad. Clear your browser's cookies and temporary data, and run malwarebytes is the best advice I can offer. TalkBass itself has not been hacked.

The problem was on my samsung phone. I was getting the tango redirect followed either by a roullette wheel Amazon com winner or a "your phone is infected" pop up.. Was making it almost impossible to use TB.
I cleared all the data but not the apps and the problem remained. I have a pretty bare-bones phone with exactly one app - The Fender Tuner app which I downloaded about two weeks ago. Cleaned the phone again, deleted this app and the problem disappeared.
So I suspect there is malware in the Fender Tuner app.
BTW, this problem did not show up on other sites I use (BBC, wiki, etc)

I just started getting spam on my Android phone using Chrome. Talk Bass was the only web site I've had open thus far today.

Here's a post I actually copied from this thread Getting spammed on TB
Clear your browser's cookies/cache/history every time this happens. It's caused by a malicious cookie that some site or ad places on your phone. If you're on Android/mac/windows, run malwarebytes to remove any malware. Keep in mind that these can also be caused by a malicious app, that's injecting the cookie into your browser's files.
While visiting TB pages can trigger this cookie, it's not likely caused by one of our ads. We only run Google Adsense ads, and Google does a pretty good job of screening ads. That said, if you happen to notice that a particular ad loads prior to the popup occurring, please let me know what ad it was and I can look into it.

If you search google for the specific popup text that you get, you'll likely get tips on getting rid of them.

Ok, I got myself more educated on this issue, and have posted here about what this is, and what you can do to help keep the number of malicious popups down: Getting Malicious Pop-ups? Win 250,000, Free iPhone, Amazon gift cards, etc? Thanks!
Woah - just happened again even though I had cleared my cache previously.
I had only visited one other site (of a local musician) that doesn’t have ads.

Thanks again, these should be going away soon. Be sure to close any tb windows and clear your browser data.
I have a fantastic ad team that's managing our display ads (optimal.media), they searched through hundreds of lines of ad logs in the minutes that your popups happened, to find zap the culprit. These rogue "forced redirects" have found their way into all ad networks, including AdSense. Glad we're good now! These may come back, at least until the industry finds a way to block them once and for all.
