Double Bass Portable Folding Stool

Its not the least expensive option out there, but the
most comfortable that I've tried, I've had one now for
nearly a year I believe, its really light as well...

There's some for sale at Target or Wal Mart. I think they're 28", but they could be 24".

My teacher uses a guitar foot stool for his left foot. I tried out a plastic box under my foot to keep it flat on a surface, and it's MUCH more comfortable than having it hanging on a bar of a stool. I will be buying a guitar footstool when I can afford to lose $20. But something on the ground that you can put your left foot on and give it a try. You might like it.

I guarantee you that no $10 wonder has the
comfort or quality of this stool. The seat part
is about 5 inches thick padding, its REAL nice.

And when its in "folded" mode its smaller than
other stools I've seen.

Ya, you can find something cheaper, but if
you're gonna sit on it 10 hrs a week do you
really want to do that to your bottom :)

Well said, Jack. I've not seen or tried the Walmart stool - I don't shop there - but I can't imagine a $10 stool coming close to the comfort, convenience and portability of this Qwikseat. Geez, we sound like an infomercial...

For the last several months I have been using the 24" folding stool from WalMart with great success. Like a minority of players, I have found that a shorter stool allows both feet to be firmly planted on the floor with the bass more horizontal than a taller stool comfortably permits. This has gone a long way to helping relieve my lower back pain.The only drawback I have found is that the bass slides across a smooth floor more often. :(Also, the 1/4" padding is lacking, although the large radius around the edge is nice.
That said, I may try the Quickseat just as soon as I pay for all the other gear I've been buying.:D It is adjustable from 22"-30", I believe.

Qwikseat has like 3 height options, they include these plastic
spacers that you put over this long bolt part of the leg, so its
not quickly adjustable. I use the intermediate height, I think
its like 24", not sure though.

Lately when I play big band I have played on hard floor or
outside enough that I went out and bought a cheap persian
rug (6 x 4). It has enough thickness that its very comfy to
stand on, but its also a softer surface when I lay the bass
down. Playing on that would solve your sliding problem. My
drummer also uses a rug, and they happen to match so
we make a color coordinated section :)

now that's usin' yur noggin. I like it. chances are your foot ain't gunna slip off either (if it does it might take the skin off the back of your calf...)
but really what a perfect solution to getting a foot rest where you want it and on a lot of stools without rests...

Thanks for the suggestion on the rug. One more thing to carry though! I use an endpin stop similar to the xeros, but it seems everything related to DB is such a hassle. Sometimes I don't realize I need it until halfway through the first tune.

A friend has a different one that is a similar design to this quicklok stool above but even lighter weight and infinitely adjustable. I'll try to find out the manufacturer and post it.

A good stool is worth a lot! I found a very modern, lightweight bar stool that just happens to be the perfect height for me in a resale shop. I will never get rid of it. Other players are always asking me if they can borrow it. It's another thing to lug around but you never know what a venue will have or won't have available for the musicians.
Great thing to buy and leave in the car.

I really like the look of that thing on wwbw, it doesnt
have as much cushion as qwikseat though, still...

As for the other one you're talking about, Lemur has had
a folding stool that is "infinitely adjustable", one of the
bassists that I know around here has one. The problem
with that design is after a year or so of use it becomes
kinda slippery and tends to creep lower (according to
reports I've had) and it also has WAY less padding too.

Whatever, you get to decide how much cushion you'd
like to park your behind on, these days in my jazz
playing I find I like to stand more than sit. I usually
just sit down when my feet get tired. Its any seriously
complex bowing that I can't deal with without sitting.

Yup, that's the one. I think it's a brilliant design and super portable. I know what you are saying about the seat cushion being thin but I found it to be comfortable enough.
