Good call. I was going to recommend the Phil Jones Briefcase amp (I would have been about the 5th or 6th person to mention it), but then I saw you were looking at the headphone amp. I have the older version of that, and I love it. It is absolutely fantastic for travel, but I have also used it at home when learning new songs.

There is this if you don't want to spend much. Looks feature packed for such a low price. I will guess that the weak point will be the 8" speaker

Oh, one thing that did come out of that thread was that I got a tip to try something like this;

I spoke to a TrippLite CSR and his attitude was that while he couldn’t guarantee it would clean up the noise floor in my case, he would be very surprised if it didn’t.
I didn’t end up rolling the dice on it, but just thought I’d put it out there in case you were looking for another rabbit hole to fall down.

This thing works great, but make sure to get loud headphones because the output isn't very loud.

Not really a very good simile at all. More accurate would be "my car doesn't run properly on the only gas I can get".

Males get pretty goofy when dealing with Women on ANY Level here....some flirt, some try to show off, some are rude and a few are kind and HELPFUL. The YOUNG guys are the Most Fun. That’s interesting the computer audio doesn’t buzz. I think you’ll have more range of options if you get a simple hi z audio interface or a bass preamp and interface and use your PC instead of a battery powered amp for the house. May be cheaper too. Sansamp pedal can be battery powered. Then you can use software like two notes wall of sound for cab emulation.
there is a bass player at a semi-local theme park that rolls around with a band and a little cart with bass, vocals, and some other instruments I forget, and they use Roland amps and it sounds fairly good.
I think it was something like a Roland KC-220 keyboard amp - battery powered and 3 channels.
I don’t think any battery powered amp will be satisfying with a low B though I think the Pc solution will sound better to you.

You said the noise stops when you touch the strings, right? I've been there, done that. Not sure why so dismissive.
Not dismissive, but I went with my bass to a tech and the ground is fine. Dude literally went thru everything with a multimeter and everything is fine. No buzz anywhere except here at home.
How many times do I have to write it for you to finally read what I'm writing to you.
I went a technician (3 of them, in fact)
Checked everything with a multimeter.
Everything is grounded and shielded.
My new bass is fine, too.
