So I have been contemplating grabbing myself a portastudio so I can have an easy way to get ideas recorded (and bvecause I want a new toy). I don't need much in the way of features or inputs, I had been considering tascam's porta02mkII.
I had a couple questions that weren't entirely addressed in other threads. What I was hoping for was 2 simultaneous tracks, and an output that I can send to my stereo as a "moniter" or my computer if I feel like building something a track at a time on there. I like the analog thing, but I want the option to play around on my computer if I want to.
As I will likely only ever record a bass and an acoustic guitar, I had wanted a 1/4 input (incase I grab an electric guitar) but was wondering about the XLR inputs. I will be grabbing a basic DI box and a mic, and had hoped for a pair of those inputs as I thought any benefit gained from an XLR was lost if one converted it into a 1/4 balanced input (This is where I'm over my head so that may be wrong). So to anyone that uses one of these, how limiting is the lack of XLR ins?
I think that I'll be fine without eq or effects loops... I have pretty simple tastes, so all I want in a unit is a couple xlr's, a pan and level per channel, and the option of sending things out to my computer. If anyone can comment on the XLR issue, or recomend something similar I'd appreciate it imensly.
