There is no need to do it really.
And the 301 bin is not designed to do it.
301 bin is based of the Cerwin Vega bins
and used same recommended cerwin vega driver
Cerwin Vega did do a ported horn loaded cabinet.
but the chamber design is completely different and designed to work correctly
porting the cabinet wont give you more bass if that is what your looking for.
frequency response is related to the size of the horn mouth.
no way to get more bass unless you use a bigger horn.
the way its done and always has been done. is add another exact bin and this will increase
bass response. hence 2x 301 bins.
The 370 can run 1.6 ohm loads. but i wont do it.
Vega Drivers are 3 ohms
The actual Vega Design uses a larger longer horn. The bin is deeper than the 301
Acoustic made the 301 a little smaller and less deep to make the cabinet easier to move.
Im not being negative on Acoustic, ive been running a 371 bass system for years.
If you want a ported bin, id use a actual Cerwin Vega.
then again it sounds no different than the closed chamber bin.
and like always you just use more for extended bass

Dam! I just bought another 4 ohm 18 as a spare. That would be a 2 ohm load, now I'm really scared.
lol aww its just 2 ohms, but yeah i would just run 2 heads.

I love the living heck out of my 370
it has literally been through hell and has never ever been repaired.
just keeps going n going.
they are designed to Run 2x301 bins
so with a original 3 ohm vega that is a 1.6 ohm load.
pretty insane how a ancient turd old T03 transistor really holds up.
its a simple but superior design. you just bolt the things to a large chassis
and its one huge heatsink.
Then of course proper venting and it all works out.
technically i wouldnt expect old 3055 transistors to hold up.
but then again my head has proven to hold up and be rather indestructible
i run it full tilt, with distortion pedals. on 4 ohm 810s for years and 3 ohm Vegas
i wouldnt run mine at 1.6 ohm. but the manual says it does and its definitely been done.
Im not a expert on the Vegas, my buddy is. 3 different models have been used.
one later had better voiccecoil glues like many other company's and wouldn't blow easy
other 2 can be creamed pretty easy. unfortunately ive killed 2 vegas in my lifetime
ive pretty much overheated plenty newer heads with 2x power and find it funny as hell that its impossible to
shut down my head. and it works flawless
The 301 is rather lightweight, maybe I should return the drivers for the 8 ohm versions. I will check with Parts Express.
prices went through the roof on 301s
and yeah they are actually very light
hope you find one. it takes awhile to find a actual cool seller that doesnt rack up the price.
they are out there though.
Of course nothing sounds like a real vega loaded cab.
and its very hard finding a 18" that is for fullrange and not a dark muddy sub driver.
Best driver ive found so far was a Eminence Sigma Pro 18A2
it has plenty mids and high end and the sensitivity is very high.
its not a low sensitivity dark sounding sub type speaker.
sounds good in the 301
sounds pretty much like a mellow 15" which is not easy to find in the 18" world
likewise i dont bother with 4 ohm 18" drivers they sensitivity is usually lower.
Exactly just toss in a 8 ohm
or hunt down vegas on Ebay
blow em, sell em ,then reload lol
i wish i kept my Vegas. but guys still buy them blown.
Build one, the plans should be on the net somewhere. I love these old "W" bins. Also, A Carvin head will do 2 ohms reliably.

This amp is fine to run down at about 1.7 Ohm
