Possible ? 1981 Cort Curbow

I saw my first Curbow bass in '92 in Marietta, GA when they were handmade custom instruments way before the design was sold to Cort.

It was a fretless thing of beauty, but I guess that doesn't really help you. Like everyone says contact Cort. If anyone knows the logic and reason behind their serial numbers it would be them.

I'm glad I found this thread. I was trying to find the year my Cort Curbow 6 was manufactured. I'm guessing now its a 2001. Ten years old and flawless! I also read that the slap function was produced with access both through the back-plate (exposed "slap depth" and "overall gain" screws) and behind the back-plate (removal of the plate required to adjust). Thankfully I have the exposed adjustment screws!

If this is the case, what years have the exposed screws? I'm asking this because I intend to find both a 4 and a 5 string. If I have to purchase them via the Internet I want to be sure I'm buying the correct/preferred instrument. Obviously I'd prefer the same as my 6.

Are there specific years I should avoid? Bad QC issues, bad materials, etc... Thanks in advance.

hi there, i was just checkin the building dates of my old gary willis ibanez bass that was build in 1999 in the fuji-gem plant. i've just purchased an old cort artisan 6 from the netherlands 2 months ago, as i am a cort user since 2001 starting with an A5, this A6 is older then my first bought Cort. The serial number also begins with 8. After some research i've found out this model was made around 1998. So i think the 8 stands for 1998. This old cort A6 is really build well, as far the best build cort i've purchased. Just switched the pick-ups and electronics with bartolini and i have really wel build and nice sounding six string
