Possible Tony Franklin Tribute

Sorry for the delay on the progress pics but my dad has been busy & we're heading away on holiday tomorrow for 10 days, so will hopefully get it done just after getting back.
But here are few pics of what I've done over the last couple of days...

Well thanks to the rain I didn't leave to go camping today meaning... I finally got the routing done & am very pleased!
Next step now is to put the veneer inserts in the fretboard & to re-seal the neck with a clearcoat. Again, will post pics when done :bassist:

I haven't seen any activity for a couple of weeks now..:hmm:

Nah...just having a crazy month in my side business and not much time for TB. My project bass had a wiring problem that I had to figure out and then rewire (I really suck at soldering!).

I also got a bit overzealous with the shielding tape. I even shielded the hole in the output jack! What I didn't realize was that when the cord was plugged in, the shoe touched the copper and grounded. I think it's all good now. I need to put the headstock logo on and take the "after" photos.

Jordan, did you get the waterslide decals?

I finally got around to my Project TF bass today and slid on the headstock logo. The fuser degraded a bit and the finer detail print on the "Mutated in the USA" began to separate, but I left it. I think it fits with the mutant theme.

I threw a coat of laquer on and will repeat again in a few hours and again tomorrow morning. A final clean-up and re-installation of the keywinds, and I should be ready for "after" photos tomorrow night. Then off to the firehouse it goes!

I had it all strung and set-up after I fixed the grounding problem and it had a great range of tones and played beter than I would have expected for a $80 instrument that began it's life as a Squier Affininty!

With all I learned, I will soon be modding my Grand Theft Precision bass (an '03 MiM Precision) with a pair of nice Jazz pups into a J-P-J with a 5-position strat style switch for my next project.

Well, I'm all done. This formerly-stock Squier Affinity P-Bass is really living up to it's practice bass identity. I just finished modding practice and Project TF is headed to the firehouse for some exercise.

All in all, it went pretty well, if not too long. I think of all the modifications, the wiring is the weakest, as the solder connections are conductive at best and ugly at worst. The complete slideshow is in the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

After I spend some time playing it, I may get under the pickguard again and clean it up a bit.

Looks awesome! What is your electronic setup (e.g. VVT+Switch)?
You're both making me jealous! :bawl:
But mine shouldn't be too far away! I'm going to play it unpainted for awhile :bassist:

Thanks! Mine's VVT, with the 3-way tele switch solo-neck/both/solo-bridge.

I can't believe how good this cheap Chinese Affinity sounds (and plays). I usually run it out of a 30-watt/10" Fender B-DEC, but through my big Marshall stack, it's plain awesome.

I did just realized that it's not really accurate. I dunno why, but for some reason I thought real Fender TFs have VVT, but they only have VT. Oh well, I like the versatility of using both volumes to blend the pups when I'm squirreling around on it...

I must say you did me proud on the headstock logo!!!
CHEERS!!!!!

that toggle switch is the sex

Nice one! I wouldn't have gone with the two volumes and a switch, but thats personal taste.

Congrats man, it came out fantastic.

Thanks fellas! Overall, I'm 9.5/10 happy with it.

The route isn't perfect, especially on the top end side, the decal disintegrated a bit, and my cut on the pickguard slit for the 3-way was a bit sloppy. I will also need to get under the hood one day and clean up the wiring. It works fine, but there's more wire in there than necessary.

And Dark, if I had realized that the real TF is only VT, I'd probably have gone that way, but I just ass-u-me'd without checking.

Not bad for a first run. My next project will either be a ground-up build (except for the neck) or adding a pair of J's and a 5-way switch to my Grand Theft Precision. Do you guys think adding pups to my P-bass will change it's sound - even when soloing the split?
