anyone else experience this? i often feel so hollowed out the day after playing a gig. just sort of emotionally bereft. i have experienced this since i was a teenager, and it has persisted up to now, i'm 40. what do you do to combat it?

If it is just for the next day, it sound like maybe you're giving it your all and are essentially exhausted the next day. If that's the case, I wouldn't worry about it. Be proud that you're leaving it all on stage...anyone else experience this? i often feel so hollowed out the day after playing a gig. just sort of emotionally bereft. i have experienced this since i was a teenager, and it has persisted up to now, i'm 40. what do you do to combat it?

Seems to me that "adrenaline hangover" is not really a thing. Thanks everyone - yeah an adrenaline hangover sounds right.

You might want to try some B12 the morning of a gig. Some Electrolyte water and a bit of protein snack before and after.i sleep a little longer after a gig. and i'm always tired the next morning, these days. but not "depressed" (as in sad). would you say that you are sad after performing? thanks.
thanks, https://www.talkbass.com/members/stumbo.110359/ . most of my stuff is age-related = can't do 18-20 hour days like i used to do. but i'm not complaining: i'd rather do the work and go slow the next day instead of not doing the work at all.You might want to try some B12 the morning of a gig. good tip on the B-12 and the electrolyte balancing!
about one half of my gigs = out of state drive, tow a PA and set it up. either mix and/or play the gig, tear it down and pack it...and then drive back home! 18-20 hours, but i pace myself and give my self permission to move more slowly than i used to!
