Since 7 strings is about my limit for normal bass playing styles, I have to presume he taps a lot! (Unless he has some EXTREMELY long fingers!

Does Wishbass count as "weird"? Here's my favorite. It always reminds me of a chunk of silly putty splatted on a sidewalk. Sounds and plays great! I do find that cutaway in the top edge right where your playing hand goes to be a bit of an irritation, though. But "pride must be pinched". (Woman expression meaning that you have to put up with a certain discomfort to maintain your impressive appearance)

That is a crazy looking bass, but the action does not look like fun!

I don't own a rail. I've always been intrigued by them, as I think the design is very clever. But I couldn't bring myself to cough up $400-ish for a bass I wouldn't likely play on stage.

I bid on a couple but did not win
I'd like to see if the neck can be easily replace for a custom fretless or have the fret board replaced
I've been looking into a headless Stienberg type of bass

My contribution to this thread is a 1990 Lane Poor Minima, which takes headless bass a step further. The fingerboard is really unusual, it's made from graphite, scalloped between "frets" that are actually large flat protrusions off the board. It works surprisingly well and results in virtually zero fret clank. The long roller next to the pickup controls volume. It also had an optional endpin so you could play it upright.

Fun to play but it has only left the house once, simply because I've never been part of a Devo tribute band.
