Came across this recently, photography of exploding flowers by one Ori Gersht. some chemical is used, I forget what. Last pic shows more the beginning. You can see some gray smoke.

I suspect they've just been dipped in liquid helium or nitrogen, which makes them especially brittle. Simply firing a few pellets of rice (for instance) will give the 'explosion' effect as they shatter.

Ok I was always suspicious of the Armstrong moon landing pics but THIS looks legit to me.

Yeah sure the moon so damn large it appears flat when on it. Gimme a break. Why does it appear so small when i look at it then?

Exactly.

It's common knowledge nowdays that it was done as a cover to avoid the prying eyes of the Decepticons while conducting an investigation of a crashed, top secret, Autobot spacecraft.

Also there is some truly amazing photography in this thread. I don't think I have anything to add that could measure up.

I bet you've got a selfie of you dressed as Gandalf :|

Original Hubble Deep Field

Very significant picture for many reasons.

For those that may not know already, practically every image down to the faintest speck of light in that photograph, of an otherwise "dark" slice of night sky to our eyes, is a far away galaxy.

Thousands upon thousands of galaxies far away in distance and far away in time.

When that picture first came out, I was stuck in the longest line at the grocer, saw the Nat Geo cover and thought; "...another astronomy issue". Looked again and realized those 'stars' were galaxies and suddenly felt very, very small. I also suddenly realized how amazing(!) it is to be alive here on this earth. What a miracle of physics and time that it truly is.

One can go on about the physics of it all day long but in a sense, it was a near religious awakening for me to realize how special living is. Another gratuitous shot of our awesome universe.

NASA site has Hubble pics one could spend all day gazing at. There are some of Nebula that are finer than the finest art.

Our little spot on this little dot is an amazing thing indeed. Makes one wonder what compels people to fight over little pieces of dirt, like ants fighting over grains of sand on one tiny little anthill stuck in the vastness of the mojave or something.
