Post something "pop"

Hope this hasn’t been posted before. Speaking of pop and sugary sweet songs, here is the #1 selling song from 1969. I was in Boot Camp in San Diego at the time, and every evening we got to listen to the radio for an hour before taps. There was always a debate about which station to listen to. When my side (there were many sides) this is what we got. This song along with Lay Lady Lay and Crystal Blue Persuasion define my summer in San Diego.

I grew up in the Mare Island/Vallejo area in the late 60s/early 70s and then Sacramento since. Even though these were San Francisco AM stations, I still tuned them in for my music pleasure and education. They were so across the board with the pop and rock genres. They were a big part my world.

When I saw the number one, I knew almost exactly when this list was from without looking at the date. That was the number one song the day I was born (a few weeks after this.)
