We've all got that one pedal that just trips our trigger... the one pedal that rules all others of it's type; that you'll never get rid of – even in a fit of GAS.

Mine is a non-D Xerograph filter with just resonance, frequency and volume controls. I've tried many filters and actually keep two others on my board, but the xero just slays with an expression pedal and after selling two other Xero Ds, this has become my favorite variant of the Xero and it's a keeper.

Well, the one pedal I'll never part with has got to be my Phat Phuk B with Bias mod.

The mod opens this beast up in soooo many ways.
Instead of being a dirty boost it has become:

- A dirty boost
- An almost-clean boost
- A tone fattener
- An overdrive
- An extra flavour/booster for an already overdriven/fuzzed out tone

...and everything in between.

OCTAVER!!

Now, not a certain brand/model/etc, but I don't know how I lived without an octaver.

I keep the output of the clean-octave and the octave-below perfectly even, and I keep the output of the pedal itself perfectly even with my dry signal, so it's never a "boost" situation when I engage the pedal, only an octave situation. I use it so often it's not even funny.

My current octaver of choice is the Aguilar Octamizer. I like it ok, it's certainly a vast improvement from my first octaver (that was a crappy Beringer)! But I may still hit eBay for an old OC-2 at some point. (And of course there's the grail- Ashdown makes a Pino Palladino sig octaver that I HAVE to try someday!)

My board right now also consists of a Way Huge Pork Loin overdrive, a Mooer Sweeper envelope filter, a Boss orange Distortion (left unplugged unless I'm going to use it for the song, she's noisy!), a BBE Sonic Stomp (I don't go through an amp, I go direct live, so this is a close second for my most indispensable pedal!) and a Snark chromatic tuner/mute switch. I have come to love and regularly use all of these, although I'm always searching, expanding/consolidating, etc...

I just got a phat phuk recently and I love it. What does the Bias mod do?

For me it is the phase 90 pedal. I do not own the original MXR, but I have a Musikding DIY clone and a Mooer ninety orange, where the latter is on my bass pedal board due to size. Either will do, but I guess I'll never part with the DIY version which have my own experimental mods that provide unique sound possibilities.

I found the love for the phaser when playing Pink Floyd covers, but I also find myself using it for stuff that others use the chorus for...

Daring Audio Phat Beam or EH Ring Thing. The former is the only limiter i've found that is 0% suck, and the former just can't be beat for the sheer number of features it has.

I have to agree with you about the TFR... it's the second keeper pedal on my board and has been on my board longer than anything else.

If I had to pick a first team set of pedals, it would be OC2>TFR>Xero>EP-2.

sometimes it's merely subtle/simple things. I bought an xotic bass rc booster with the intent to use it for, well, a booster. It is now an on all the time part of my sound. A keeper for sure.

Nah, that ain't boring, that's good judgement. The real boring ones are those coming up with "no pedal is indispensable" line. We all know that, WE JUST DON'T CARE.
