My most recent build...keeping it mostly traditional and simple. Very lightweight swamp ash, with a light BSB finish. Fralin split-coil and rear routed controls. 7lbs 4oz.

So what's up w/that bridge? Doesn't look like a lot of adjustability - can you show a detail pic? (headstock too!) Interesting/nice bass otherwise.

My Grove 51P5 split coil fralin pickup, burst finish from solid butterscotch edges to transparent. Just had my tech do a set up on it, he quite liked it. I love it! Scott did a great job.

It's mahogany. Has a deep jazz width neck. Overwound Fralin split J. Sounds like a tree trunk.
Love it.

Here's mine.
Built to custom order by Sandy Richards in Ballarat, Victoria in 1995. Sandy has confirmed this is the only one he ever built.
Neck- 3 piece Maple. Lots of flame. Headstock attached with scarf joint, pitched back like a Gibson. Face has a veneer of striped (Macassar) ebony. Fretboard striped ebony and bound. Mother of pearl bird markers. 21 frets. Dimensions based on a 70s A neck (Jazz bass). Very comfortable neck.
Body- Sandy advised that the dimensions were copied from an actual 55 P Bass. Chambered african mahogany with Canadian broad leaf maple cap. Lots of flame. F hole. Bound. Poly finish neck and body- not too thick or sticky.
Pickups. 2 X Di Marzio P Bass.
Controls. V V T
Hardware Badass I Bridge, Gotoh Light weight Tuners. Side input jack.
Weight 8 lb 9 oz
Sound- the pickups are hotter than my 73 P Bass's pickup. It actually reminds me more of a Jazz than a P Bass, but a little darker in tone than a Jazz. Cuts through very well.

Yeah, the bridge doesn't offer room for that much tweakin', yet more than shown: two allen's on both sides allow to raise or lower the overall action, while remember that the somewhat whitish plastic points which represents the saddles are parts of a whole piezoelectric pickup

So the bass works with two outputs: "mag" output for the HyperActive ceramic splitcoil only (with just volume and up until center detent of tone knob workin'); "mag/blend" for both, so that you have volume, full tone control (up until center detent for magnetic, above center detent for piezo) balance knob all workin'

That's an interesting hs design - would like a tuner-side/edge shot as it's still a bit deceiving. It looks to be an angled wedge shape tapering to a narrow edge. You would think w/a step-down like that that it would eliminate the need for a string tree/bar. Cool none the less - thanks for posting that and the other information.
