When I saw him at Ozzfest I'm pretty positive he was using Black Beauties. He was using his all-black thumb a lot during the set.

WOW that looks awesome tom! I'm seriously gonna have to check into these things. everyone keeps telling me to get the BBs to go for the total stealth look, but i'm more worried about the sound than anything...

Black Beauties rule! They sound great, feel amazing and look killer.

DRs are all I use...nothing fancy right now, just some hi-beams. I have an unopened set of the peacock blues. I wasn't sure about the color...Might have to get a blue bass to match.

If you're asking about my MTD (assuming, since the post is right after, but sometimes this isn't always true), it's a pretty common config... Ash body, maple neck, ebony fingerboard, and maple burl top and headstock lam (I say lam 'cause it's way thicker than what I'd call a veneer).

To me, what really makes it stand out is it's one of the most highly figured burls I've ever seen that's completely void free (so to speak... no holes or black stuff, and a fairly consistent color). Some may find that less attractive than one with more "irregularities", but I like it better. I was very lucky to find it.

It's a fairly heavy body, and I think a lot of that is due to that top wood, which is dense due to the burl. I'm told by others it's one of the better sounding MTD's they've played, but to me they all sound so incredible I couldn't imagine one being really that much better than another. However, I never stop falling in love with mine, so to me it's all good.

I'm currently talking to Mike about a very special project for next year, as well.

I put a big review under Strings...Here are pics of mine with Blacks (lasted almost 20 gigs) and the Reds I just put on. I chose red because it is the Holidays.

I use te Lo-Riders on my Washburn T-14. { The LOG!!}
All my other basses wear LaBella or GHS flats. At one time however, all I used was DR. They are the only stainless roundwound on the market that could advertise that they don't eat your frets and in my experience they don't.
Caught only one bad set of DR's in ten years.

Ignore the(non-DR-equipped)guitar, unless you'd like to buy it. I also put BBs on the fretless Rebop 5 I traded to someguy, who sold it to cdb, IIRC. Very nice on fretless. I wish they made more gauges & a 7 string set.
