Post Your Favorite EQ's here

i posted a thread last week looking for a good rackmount, now i'm just asking anyone and everyone what is your favorite eq? pedal or rackmount. parametric or graphic. i'd love to hear what you guys use. if you could also include what style of music you play that would be great. thanks!

I use different tools for different purposes.

As I haven't been gigging since returning to school, my use for EQ is primarily tone-shaping and speaker management. So all I need is one steep high-pass filter (to cut subharmonic thumps) and one band of parametric EQ. Lately that means an [sfx] Thumpinator and a T.C. Electronic Sustain+Parametric EQ.

If I was gigging, I would also have the following purposes:
--a notch filter (one narrow band, cut-only, semi-parametric EQ) to reduce feedback, boom, and wolf notes.
--a one-band parametric EQ pedal for fast tone changes.
--a switchable low-pass filter to roll off highs for more "vintage" tone when needed.

I haven't found a product (or combination of products) that is "perfect" for that selection of functions. There are lots of great EQ's out there though. I'm a fan of the Carl Martin Parametric preamp pedal, although it's only semi-parametric, and it's not surgical. The Empress parametric pedal gets a lot of love here, but I haven't tried it yet.

The empress is pretty awesome. Would prolly cover the first 2 things bongo wants. I find the narrow band is actually quite narrow IME/HO.

As for the LPF, if you have a passive bass, just change the tone knob for a switch to toggle between 0 resistance and X. The empress doesn't have shelving for high and low bands.

I don't know if you've tried it or not but the SansAmp ParaDriver has a mid boost/cut and a shelving treble. Just set the blend all the way down (no tube emulation). I don't know what the band width on it is tho.

I use a TFPro P3 at the moment but will be replacing that with a custom 5 band parametric pedal EQ.

The P3 will be used in my keyboard rig when my new toy arrives

As far as simple stompbox eq's go, I've been totally digging the Barber Linden for quite some time. Not exactly a huge range of tonal control, but the lows are sweet and warm, and the highs are not at all shrill. Nice little box, methinks.
